Main Scripture

Matthew 6:14–15

“For if you forgive others their offenses, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well.”

Devotional

Forgiveness is one of the hardest things Jesus asks us to do. When someone hurts you, everything inside says: hold on to it, replay it, protect yourself.

But holding onto offense doesn’t protect you—it traps you. Unforgiveness builds walls in your heart. It keeps pain alive and affects how you see people.

Jesus didn’t just talk about forgiveness—He modeled it. Even on the cross, He said, “Father, forgive them…” Today is not about saying what happened was okay. It’s about choosing to release it.

Action Steps

  • Ask God if there is anyone you are holding something against
  • This may be a friend, parent, teacher, coach, or someone who betrayed or hurt you
  • Choose to forgive by name
  • If it’s safe and wise, have a conversation or send a message
  • Also ask if there is anyone you need to ask forgiveness from and make it right if needed

Social Challenge

If you choose to post, keep it general: “Choosing forgiveness today. Freedom starts here.”

Faith in Action

Unforgiveness keeps you connected to the pain. Forgiveness releases you from it. It doesn’t erase what happened—but it removes its control over your heart. When you forgive, you are trusting God with justice and choosing freedom over bitterness.
